Tuesday morning saw word from the Official World Golf Ranking. LIV Golf will officially be receiving OWGR points.
The OWGR announced that top-10 finishers in the individual portion of LIV events will receive points, and again it goes without saying that this significantly changes the status quo of golf as we know it.
Since its inception LIV Golf has struggled to achieve this status and ahead of this season, which begins this weekend, decided to change its format from 54 holes in an event to 72. It feels fair to say that this was a significant variable in the OWGR’s decision-making.
Given that LIV Golf has recently seen departures from Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed back to the PGA Tour, this is one of their biggest signs of life as a Tour in a long time.
What will happen next in professional golf?
