It’s proven to be an unexpectedly bad weekend for Binky Felstead, who has been called out by bakers for ‘ghosting’ them after requesting freebies.
Binky, 35, rose to fame on E4’s Made in Chelsea in 2011. Now married to Max Fredrik Darnton, she has three children and frequently documents her family life on Instagram, where she boasts 1.4million followers.
As is typical in the world of influencing, Binky often promotes gifted items on her page, most recently collaborating with brands Marks and Spencer, Symprove, OKA, and more.
Things took a sour turn, however, when she allegedly asked for a free bespoke cake for her son Wilder’s third birthday, offering ‘exposure’ on her social media platforms as the only form of payment.
Earlier this week, 42-year-old baker Reshmi Bennett, 42, who owns London-based luxury cake business Anges de Sucre, took to Instagram to share exchanges between herself and Binky’s team.
In the screenshotted messages, Binky’s personal assistant asked for a ‘yellow train cake’ for 10 people.

Replying, Reshmi confirmed it would be possible, despite the tight deadline, and asked for a delivery address, reference images, and, crucially, a budget. Receiving no response, she sent a chaser email days later, expressing how keen she was to make the cake within the required timeframe.
Finally writing back, Binky’s team said: ‘Thanks for your message. Would you be interested in collaborating on the cake? As in the cake would be gifted in exchange for a Story on [censored name’s] Instagram?’
Reshmi admitted she was ‘hopping mad’ over the request, ready to ‘go nuclear’ in her follow-up, in which she said it would ‘restore [her] faith in an industry so tainted by “grifters”‘ if Binky were to pay.
‘Influencers, in general, have a terrible reputation for not wanting to pay for their cakes,’ she penned, citing the Catherine Tyldesley saga as an example and explaining that the ‘optics’ of a wealthy TV star receiving a free cake from a small, family-run business are ‘terrible’.
She concluded by vowing to be Binky’s ‘biggest cheerleader’ should she pay for her work in full, which would also create ‘positive’ press and separate her from the ‘cake blaggers’.
Following this, however, Binky’s team said that, while they ‘understood’ her viewpoint and would ‘take it back’ to Binky for further discussions, Reshmi heard nothing. Nor is she hopeful that she will.

What is Binky Felstead's net worth?
Binky is among some of Made in Chelsea’s richest cast members. Thanks to her collaborations with baby and wellness brands, book deal, clothing lines, and lifestyle campaigns, she’s said to be worth £2-3million, which continues to grow.
As for the cake she requested from Reshmi Bennett’s business Anges de Sucre, the baker told us that, ‘for 10 people a six-inch-sized cake, fully decorated, with a sculpted yellow train, tracks, and some train station decorations, [it] would be in the region of £300-350’. This includes delivery to her address.
‘Influencers would rather pay a “team” to get free stuff rather than just paying for the stuff,’ she added in her Instagram exposé.
In a comment shared with Metro as the saga gained coverage this weekend, Reshmi stated that ‘the whole thing could have been avoided’ if Binky and her team had ‘just paid for the cake as [she] had suggested’.
‘The press would’ve been so different – because it’s extremely rare for influencers to actually pay for their cake,’ she explained.
‘I was disappointed to get their very ChatGPT-coded response to my counteroffer and hated the thought of any other bakery doing it for free,’ Reshmi added, aware that influencers ‘beg en masse’ on such occasions.
‘So I willfully torpedoed their efforts by going public and will be watching where the cake is from on her son’s birthday like a hawk,’ she concluded.
The drama didn’t cease there, however, as Reshmi’s revelations inspired others to come forward, including the owner of Funfetti London, from whom Binky reportedly requested a wedding cake in 2021.

Commenting under Reshmi’s post, she declared that she ‘wanted to scream’ after discovering someone else had ‘fallen for Binky’s BS’.
‘She reached out to me on Instagram saying how beautiful my cakes were, then told me she was getting married and wanted both a wedding cake AND a birthday cake for her daughter,’ wrote the baker.
‘At the time, my cake business was just a side hustle. I was shocked, flattered, and thinking this could be *the* opportunity to grow.
‘She took my number, called me straight away, loads of compliments, lots of “I love this one” and “that’s stunning”… we discussed designs and ideas.’
Deep down, the owner ‘knew she wanted a freebie in exchange for “exposure”,’ but was admittedly ‘younger and naïve’. Consequently, she requested just £75 in total to cover transporting both cakes.
‘I usually charge £2k for a story and £5k for a grid post… so I’d really want everything inclusive,’ Binky allegedly replied, also agreeing to have the cakes featured in Hello! Magazine.

The baker ‘took an unpaid day off work’ and travelled to Binky’s house to build the full wedding cake in her kitchen, having been ‘too trusting’.
When the buzz around the celebrations had settled and after the alleged promise of social media tagging, though, the baker was greeted with a ‘tumbleweed’.
She followed up for months afterwards, finally receiving a response from Binky which politely asked for an invoice.
However, upon receiving it, the Funfetti baker claims she did not pay.
‘BIG lesson learned. Now whenever I hear her name, I just cringe,’ she said in her comment, adding: ‘Exposure doesn’t pay bills. Ever.’
Binky has not publicly addressed this weekend’s debacle, despite her own comments now being flooded with imploring her to do so.
Appearing unbothered by the social media storm, she posted a slew of snaps on Insta today from a family trip to New York, under which @xcharlottefox commented: ‘If you can afford a trip to New York then surely you can afford to pay for a birthday cake for your son!’
‘Was the trip #gifted?’, quipped @oopnorth, while @treyc_baby branded her a ‘cheapskate’ and @ad_donalds said ‘ignoring it is not going to make it go away’.

Irrespective of the feud, though, birthday cake baker Reshmi is still open to working with her.
‘Binky…it’s not too late,’ she said in her latest comment.
‘You can still buy a cake. Just pay for a cake and make this all go away.’
Reps for Binky Felstead have been contacted for comment.
