Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper has been arrested once again, this time receiving four additional charges stemming from his domestic violence arrest on June 4.

Cooper was arrested on Thursday evening, shortly after 10 p.m. local time in Colorado. He was charged with two counts of domestic violence, one for harassment due to repeated phone calls, and a fourth charge for violating the protective order that was put in place after his initial arrest. The two domestic violence charges were upgraded from the initial June 4 arrest, and now state that he committed “second-degree assault by strangulation” as well as a charge of “third-degree assault,” which is defined as knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury.

Documents filed in Colorado court state that Cooper and his girlfriend were involved in a verbal argument over cheating allegations, which escalated to a physical struggle. Initially police charged him only with “criminal mischief” from biting his girlfriend’s cell phone, without there being a description of domestic violence being involved. That has since been altered.

The Denver Broncos released a statement on Friday morning following Cooper’s latest arrest.

Cooper finished second on the Broncos in sacks in 2025, and is a critical part of their defense. The EDGE rusher is due in court on July 22, and the result of this case could have mammoth ramifications on Denver’s season. If found guilty, it’s almost assured the NFL will suspend Cooper.
