The SanDisk Extreme has long been one of our favorite external drives, offering everything most people will need from a reliable and durable portable SSD. If you need a lot of room for photos, videos, and backups, I’ve found a terrific deal on the 4TB SanDisk Extreme, which is now $500 (was $805) at Best Buy.

That capacity will let you store massive video files, large photo collections, or full system backups without worrying about running out of space. Having everything in one place makes day-to-day file management simpler and saves time when moving projects between systems.

It delivered great results during our benchmarking, and is capable of hitting read speeds up to 1050 MB/s, which will be more than enough for most people.

The 4TB version is the one I'd buy, but I've also seen that the 1TB model and 2TB model are discounted on the site, too.

USB-C support through USB 3.1 Gen2 keeps it compatible with most modern laptops and desktops. It works with Windows and macOS, and it also supports direct HD video capture on iPhone 15 Pro through the Apple Files app.

Durability makes a real difference when you carry storage between locations or take it on the road, and that's one the reasons why I personally rate this drive so highly.

It features an IP65 rating, which makes it dust and water resistant when you're working outdoors, and drop protection rated for up to three meters helps safeguard your data from everyday accidents.

Security features help protect sensitive files when you’re storing private or professional data and built-in password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption keeps content locked down without adding extra complexity.

Weighing just 2.4 ounces and measuring under four inches tall, this compact drive fits easily into a pocket or bag.
