- DC Studios has released one final trailer for this Supergirl
- Its further underlines why it's no longer called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
- The Milly Alcock-starring film will be released on June 26
There's less than a month to go until Supergirl takes flight in theaters worldwide — and what better way is there to celebrate its fast-approaching release date than with a new trailer?
Well, that's exactly what DC Studios has done today (June 3) by unveiling yet another round of footage ahead of the forthcoming film's arrival on June 26. And, if it wasn't abundantly clear why the comic book movie was stripped of its 'Woman of Tomorrow's subtitle, this latest teaser basically spells it out.

For those unaware: the DC Universe (DCU) movie is heavily inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, aka the 2021 graphic novel series created by Tom King and Bilquis Eveley.

However, last June, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn confirmed that its title had been shortened to Supergirl because he was "sick" of seeing movies with superfluous subheadings.
At the time, it seemed like an odd decision to make. After all, Supergirl was set to directly adapt a story from an existing piece of literature, so dropping the 'Woman of Tomorrow' part of this Kara Zor-El-fronted narrative didn't seem like a wise move.

Fast-forward to April 2026 and it started to become clear to me that Supergirl wouldn't be the comic book adaptation I was hoping for. Indeed, the footage released as part of its official trailer indicated that it would only be inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, rather than be a 1:1 translation of the story within its pages.
With the arrival of this third and final sneak peek, I'm fully convinced that's the case, too. From the revelation that it's Clark Kent — aka Kal El, aka Superman — who gives Kara her super-suit and signs pointing that Lobo will have a substantial role in this film, to Krem's apparently superhuman abilities (NB: he's just an ordinary individual in the comics), to the sheer number of vehicles at his forces' disposal (double NB: they only have a single spaceship in the graphic novel), it seems Supergirl's creative team has played fast and loose with its source material.

I'm still looking forward to watching Kara kick ass in a live-action film that she desperately deserves, and I still expect Supergirl to contain all of the major story beats from Woman of Tomorrow. I just wish it was more of a direct adaptation rather than a reimagining of King and Eveley's award-winning literary works.
