McVitie’s is launching savoury biscuits for the first time (Picture: McVitie’s/Metro)
When it comes to biscuits, McVitie’s is the go-to for many, making everything from Hobnobs to Chocolate Digestives.
The brand has been the nation’s favourite for nearly 200 years, as they’ve been creating sweet treats since 1839.
But in all that time, McVitie’s has never released a savoury product… until now.
And the new biscuits are a surprising twist on a popular lunchbox staple.

Brits will know and love the classic Penguin bar, which combines biscuit and chocolate-flavoured cream, with a milk chocolate-flavoured coating.
But now McVitie’s has unveiled brand new Penguin Bites, which are baked snack crackers that come in three flavours.
Shaped like little penguins, you’ll be able to choose between lightly salted, cheese, or salt and vinegar options.
Priced at £2 for a 125g box, the crackers are launching on June 8 in major grocery retailers across the UK.

McVities’s owner, Pladis, told The Grocer that the decision to launch savoury products has been driven by ‘growing demand for more variety across family snacking occasions’.

As such, Penguin was the ‘natural starting point’ for this move as it’s already popular with families and kids’ snacking.
‘This is the first time McVitie’s Penguin has entered savoury snacking, but Pladis is obviously a major player in the category already. Our much-loved Jacob’s Mini Cheddars and Crinklys brands give us a strong understanding of what works in baked snacks,’ Pladis CMO, Asli Özen Turhan, said.
