It’s official: this French Open has been one of the craziest grand slams in recent memory, with first-time major champions to be crowned on both the men’s and women’s sides.

The shock exit of Aryna Sabalenka, from a set and two breaks up in the quarter-finals, followed defeats for Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic from two sets up.

Despite many of the big names crashing out unexpectedly, three of the four singles finalists were still seeded, with eighth seed Mirra Andreeva beating qualifier Maja Chwalinska in Saturday’s women’s final.

Sunday’s men’s showpiece will see second seed Alexander Zverev take on 10th seed Flavio Cobolli, with two new champions to be crowned over the weekend for the first time since Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu won their first major titles at the 2021 US Open.
